The collection consists of papers of Jasper Luther and Leola Selman Beeson from ca. 1923-1954. The papers include correspondence, printed material, clippings, and scrapbooks. The materials (1927-1934) document Jasper Beeson's presidency of the Georgia State College for Women (Milledgeville, Ga.), his activities with the Doctor's Academy, and the Georgia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. The collection also contains materials relating to Leola Beeson's involvement with the Milledgeville Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Nancy Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a handwritten and typed manuscript of her "HISTORY STORIES OF MILLEDGEVILLE AND BALDWIN COUNTY."

Educator, born August 31, 1867 at Keener, Alabama. Received A.B. (1889) and A.M. (1890) from the University of Alabama, and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, 1893. Married Leola Selman in 1894. Physics instructor, the University of Alabama, 1888-89, research chemist, Louisiana Experimental Station and professor of chemistry, Louisiana School of Sugar, 1893-97. From 1927 on he taught chemistry and physics at Georgia State College for Women, where he was also acting president, 1922-23 and 1927-...
